Blog Post #13 Fight p. 76
Two fights were presented in this chapter. Compare and Contrast both of them. List their similarities and differences. Why did each fight take placs? What was the outcome of each one?
The first fight was the one where Shay jumped off a balcony with a bunjee jacket to scare the new uglies. This one compared to the one that was between Shay and Tally by being a fight firstly. Another way was that they were fighting each other. It contrasted because the first one was fake and the second one was real. Another way was one was actual fighting (with fists) and one was with words. The first one took place to scare the new uglies and the second one took place because Tally made Shay mad. The outcome of the first one was Shay and Tally running away and hiding and the outcome of the second one was them not being friends anymore.

Find information about the origin of white water rafting and post it here, along wiht the website URL.
It is interesting to note that whitewater rafting was one of the earliest forms of transportation. It was not only used for carrying people but also for transferring goods from one place to another. However, it became quite popular as a form of leisure activity in the 1980s.
In 1811, the first recorded attempt to navigate the Snake River in Wyoming was planned by the Overland Astorians. While attempting to boat the stretch below Jackson Hole, the river was found to be too treacherous and it came to be called ?Mad River.?
The rubber river raft is believed to have been invented in the early 1840s. It was first made by Lt. John Fremont, who was then serving in the U.S army and Horace H. Day. They invented the rubber raft with the intention of surveying the Rocky Mountains and the Great Plains. Although the raft was invented in the mid-nineteenth century, it was not until the turn of the century that the first ever commercial whitewater trip was undertaken. At first, surplus military rafts were used as boats and it was only much later that inflatable rafts were used.
Private companies played a major role in augmenting the rafting business. In 1956, one of the members of the most affluent business families of America, John D. Rockefeller built a resort that introduced one of the first floating trips in the country. However, it only evoked a lukewarm response. Later, in the 1960s and 1970s, exclusive whitewater rafting companies were formed. These include the Becker-Cooke Expeditions, Hatch River Expeditions and Slickrock Adventures.
Rafting was first included in the Munich Olympic Games, 1972. Subsequently, it was included in the 1992 Barcelona Games and the 1996 Atlanta Games. In 1996, the Ocoee River in Tennessee Valley played host to the whitewater events of the Summer Olympic Games.

Describe the rusty ruins. What are they? What happened during this time period?
It is the ruins of the modern world. They lit the atmosphere on fire.
Define peer pressure. Think of a time when it happened to you or someone you know and explain the situation in a paragraph.
social pressure by members of one's peer group to take a certain action, adopt certain values, or otherwise conform in order to be accepted.

Reflect on the following quotes from the chapter. What does each mean to you?
1. "Making ourselves feel ugly is not fun."..."This whole game is just designed to make us hate ourselves."
It means that they are hating themselves because the people that teach and do the surgerys are making them by giving them programs to chose what you want to look like after the surgery and not following what they want.
2. "Everyone judged everyone else based on their appearance. People who were taller got better jobs...people killed one another over stuff like having diffenet skin color."
It means that the prettier you are, the better treated you get.
3. "It's the only way to make people equal."
It means that no one is ezuel until they are pretty.

Think of another book, movie or comic in which people use hover boards. How are they used? If possible, post a video of this.
This reminded me of the chase scene in Back to The Future 2.
The boards in this video were used to chase someone and to run from someone. They are boards that float and all you have to do to move is kick at the air.

Why do you think new pretties don't come back to Uglyville to visit? Describe their physical & mental transformation into new pretties.
I think they don't go back because they think they are too good for uglies and they are the best.
They go from being ugly and biting their nails, to pretty and perfect in every one way.

Blog Post #6 Shay p.23
Write a one paragraph summary of the chapter.
During this chapter, Tally bounced to the shore on a bungee harness that hovers. She begins walking to the bridge but she spots a figure. They both see each other and have a stare-off type thing and eventually a twig breaks under Tally's knee. They both meet and talk. Tally shows Shay how she gets across the river, by way of a bridge she calls an old friend.
What have you learned about Shay? Is she like Tally? Make a prediction about what will happen between Shay and Tally.
I have learned that she is an ugly, she can hack systems and make them not tattle, and and make things work even though they cross the boundary line.
She is like Tally in a few ways such as she is an ugly.
I think Tally and Shay will become good friends.

Blog Post #5 Best Friends Forever p.11
Why do you think New Pretty Town advocates bungee jumping?
Because it is fun and the pretties are always partying and having fun.
Find information about the history of bungee jumping a post it along with the website URL.
Bungee Jumping was originally an ancient ritual or right of passage for the "vine jumpers" of Pentecost Island in the Pacific Ocean Vanuatu group. Every year, the men of the island's tribe build large wooden towers, over 80 feet high. They then carefully select vines from the jungle which they then tie to their ankles before jumping off the top of the towers.
Modern Bungee jumping began with a 4 man team from the Oxford University Dangerous Sports Club jumping off the Clifton Suspension Bridge in Bristol, England, on April 1, 1979 (April Fools Day) dressed in their customary top hat and tails. The four neatly dressed adventurers (as the rules of their club expected) were immediately arrested.
During the late 1980's A.J. Hackett opened up the 1st commercial jump site in New Zealand and to publicize his site, per-formed an astonishing bungee jump from the Eiffel Tower!
Bungee Jumping flourished in France and New Zealand during 1980s and was introduced to the United States by John and Peter Kockelman from California in late 1980s. In 1990s facilities opened up all over the United States with cranes, towers, and hot-air balloons being used as jumping platforms.
1000's have now experienced the “ultimate adrenaline rush” that is Bungee Jumping.
Today, New Zealand probably has more Bungee Jumping sites than anywhere else. South Africa however, has the highest bungee jump in the world, listed at 216 meters!
While jumping off a steep platform (or building or bridge or hot air balloon...) and bouncing up and down like a human yo-yo appeals to many adventurers, a number of things can still go wrong if bungee jumpers don’t use common sense. Accidents involving broken ankles, dislocated shoulders, severe rope burns and the like occur often. In the constant pursuit for bigger thrills and adrenaline rushes, some jumpers get carried away with new ways to jump and forget to account for gravity or weight distribution. Some of them pay the ultimate price.

Find & quote ONE oxymoron from the chapter or ONE example of irony.
Oxymoron -
Irony -
Why do you thing Tally chose to wear a mask to the party that was deemed "white tie"?
Because since she is an ugly, if she is spotted, she will lose her chances at becoming and have something happen to her by the law.
Find information about the history of masks and post it. How does it relate to Tally's decision?
A form of disguise. It is an object that is frequently worn over or in front of the face to hide the identity of a person and by its own features to establish another being. This essential characteristic of hiding and revealing personalities or moods is common to all masks. As cultural objects they have been used throughout the world in all periods since the Stone Age and have been as varied in appearance as in their use and symbolism.

How do you define Beauty? What would the world be like if everyone was Beautiful?
Beauty - The qualities of a person or thing that give pleasure to the senses.
